Hulu is Developing a Popular Game TV Series from the Minds of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The most recent Far Cry instalment that audiences experienced was Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito as the antagonist, Antón, and came out during October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is famous for celebrating action and insanity with similar excitement, all while weaving engaging, politically driven stories. No wonder then that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry anthology series attracted two creators whose creations have embodied all of those qualities.
What to Expect
Inspired by Ubisoft's successful video game series, the self-contained anthology series will stream on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The anthology will also follow the video games' style by introducing a different setting and group of personalities in subsequent series.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
We’ve shared magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, engrossing, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
Cast and Future Plans
Mac will also appear in the show, but at the time of writing, we have no details on what part that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just greenlit for more episodes, with FX and Disney finalizing a new overall deal with the creator.
“Being able to collaborate with Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly supportive, placing faith in us with one of the most iconic video-game universes ever created. And throughout this process, my FX team always encourages me with their ongoing confidence and assistance.”
“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology show. Every title is a variation of a theme, the same way every series of Fargo is a variation on a premise,” noted Hawley. “To create a epic action show that can shift from season to season, while always examining the core of humanity through this multifaceted and turbulent lens, is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to work with Rob and present our common irreverent, daring sensibility to the audience.”
A release window for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
