Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
